Key Features of the SAT:
The SAT is divided into two main sections, with an optional essay (which most colleges no longer require):
1. Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW):
a. Reading Section: Tests comprehension of passages from literature, historical documents, and scientific writings. It assesses the ability to interpret, analyze, and infer from the text.
b. Writing and Language Section: Focuses on grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and clarity. Students must identify and fix errors in passages.
2. Math Section:
a. Split into two parts: Math with Calculator and Math without Calculator.
b. Covers topics like algebra, geometry, data analysis, and advanced math concepts.
3. Optional Essay (No longer offered in some test formats):
This was an additional section where students analysed a passage and wrote a structured essay. Most schools no longer require this portion.
4. Total Score:
The SAT is scored out of 1600 points—800 points for the Math section and 800 for the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section.
5. Sub scores:
Additionally, you can receive individual scores in certain skill areas (such as Algebra, Problem-Solving, and Data Analysis), giving you and colleges more detailed insights into your abilities.
