Key Features of JEE:
1. JEE Main
Purpose: JEE Main is the preliminary exam for admission to undergraduate engineering programs at NITs, IIITs, and other participating institutes.It also serves as a qualifying exam for JEE Advanced.
Conducting Body: The exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Eligibility: Candidates must have passed or be appearing for their 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. There is no age limit for JEE Main.
Exam Pattern:
Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics.
Format: Two papers – Paper 1 (computer-based) and Paper 2 (pen-and-paper based, for admission to B.Arch. programs).
Duration: 3 hours for each paper.
Questions: 75 questions in Paper 1 (MCQs and integer type) and 82 questions in Paper 2.
Marking Scheme: 4 marks for each correct answer, -1 for each incorrect answer in Paper 1; Paper 2 has different marking schemes for different sections.
Frequency: JEE Main is conducted twice a year (January and April).
2. JEE Advanced
Purpose: JEE Advanced is the second stage exam for admission to IITs and other top engineering institutes.
Conducting Body: It is conducted by one of the IITs on a rotational basis.
Eligibility: Candidates must qualify JEE Main to appear for JEE Advanced. They must also meet the age and other criteria set by the IITs.
Exam Pattern:
Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics.
Format: Two papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2, each 3 hours long, with both papers being compulsory.
Questions: Each paper has different types of questions including MCQs, numerical answer type, and more.
Marking Scheme: Varies for different question types and sections.
Frequency: JEE Advanced is conducted once a year, usually in May or June.
